Market characteristics
- Prewar cards often trade heavily on authenticity and honest technical grade.
- Postwar rookies combine condition scarcity and player demand.
- Modern prospect populations can grow rapidly.
What to compare
Match the exact year, set, card number, player, variation, grade, grading company, qualifier and holder condition. For modern cards, identify color, refractor or parallel, serial numbering and autograph status.
Population and liquidity
A low population can reflect genuine condition rarity, low submission volume or a card that collectors rarely grade. Compare completed sales and the number of active buyers before treating a small population as automatic value.
